Career advice that only says 'inventor' is a poster. You need a problem with actual structure, permission to orbit, and a pipeline so the orbit becomes an artifact. If the job is only attendance and vibe, you'll become a ghost with a badge.
Deep technical work is a home: research, software, statistics, philosophy or linguistics beside a day job, systems design, technical writing, game economy or simulation, lab work. Negotiate for maker time. A calendar full of syncs is how Lattice dries out.
Analysis and critique fit too: editor, analyst, security researcher, academic-adjacent work, design research. You're good at saying what's wrong with the model. Pair with someone who will pick a model anyway. Pure critique as a job can turn you sour.
Independent practice — consulting, indie tools, writing, a small studio — fits the inner lab and will starve you of ship energy unless you invent a cadence. A boring weekly publish, a billing date, a collaborator who nags. Pride will call this selling out. It's how the work gets a mailing address.
Avoid high-surveillance customer theater unless it's a short, well-paid season. Avoid managing people who need daily warmth you don't want to fake. You can mentor. You may not want to be everyone's emotional furniture. That's allowed.
Next: ship one artifact this month that a stranger could use. Not a perfect theory. A tool, an essay, a patch, a talk. Then look at the jobs list and investigate two of them like a problem, because that's what they are. Read INTJ versus INTP if the stall is always 'one more distinction.' It usually is.
If you're already employed as a ghost with a badge, the move is a pipeline, not a new identity: a weekly artifact, a meeting you skip on purpose, a collaborator who nags. Managing people who need daily warmth may never be your job. Mentoring a problem can be. Pick the problem-shaped path and stop apologizing for not wanting the pep rally.
