Lattice
INTP personality
Typewell · Updated September 1, 2026
Lattice is Typewell's name for INTP. The letters are Introverted, Intuitive, Thinking, and Perceiving. Introverted: the real lab is inside. People are optional equipment, sometimes beloved, always a little expensive in attention. Intuitive: you hop to the abstract, the analogy, the system under the system. Thinking: you trust a model that holds, even if it makes the room less cozy. Perceiving: you keep branches open. Closing feels like lying if a better distinction might still arrive. The inner architecture can be beautiful. The outer one — dishes, dates, a sent note — is a group project you forgot to staff. This is a preference sketch, not a certificate of genius and not a pass to ghost your own life. It isn't the official MBTI® and it isn't a diagnosis.
Daily life is a trail of almost-finished understandings. You open a tab to check one definition and surface in a different century. Dinner gets cold because the model got more real than the meal. From the outside it looks like laziness. From the inside you're loyal to a question. Judging types experience that loyalty as disrespect for their time. You experience their deadlines as a lid on a pot that hasn't found its flavor. You both want something good. You disagree about when 'good' is allowed to be called.
At work you need a problem that is actually a problem, not a costume of one. Research, software, philosophy-adjacent roles, analysis, tool design, technical writing, game systems, any craft where a wrong distinction is expensive. You wilt in performative standups and in shops that want a smile with the spec. Get a partner or a system that closes. You won't become a different type by force of shame. You might become someone who ships a structure other people can climb, which is the point of thinking where someone else can see it.
In love you're loyal sideways. You offer the interesting mind, the honest doubt, the weird joke after midnight. You may forget the anniversary because you were busy understanding something, including them. Partners need a few rituals that don't have to win an argument to exist. Put dinner on a recurring event. You can still be Lattice. You'll just be Lattice who eats.
Growth is choosing a constraint on purpose. A page count, a date, a definition of done that you write while you're still excited. Perceiving will call this a trap. It's more like a stake in the ground so the vine doesn't rot where it falls. One branch has to close. The rest can stay strange.
A common mistake is that INTPs are unfeeling machines. Many of you are privately tender and publicly allergic to fake warmth. Another is that you can't lead. You can lead a problem. You may not want to lead a pep rally. A third is that you and INTJ are interchangeable. They already drew the backup. You have a better question. If you're fighting about when to stop researching, you're fighting about Judging and Perceiving, not about who is smarter. The comparison page will save a friendship.
If this fits, protect the lab and staff the kitchen. Read INTJ for the cousin who ships. Read ENTP for the cousin who argues the model into a room. Read ISTP for the cousin who builds the thing with hands instead of with a board. Type Compass is a sketch in a Jungian tradition, not a clinical test. Let the question stay. Set a timer for dinner.
A small test: when someone asks you something at the table, do you answer, or do you improve the question until the food is cold. Lattice improves the question. That's a gift in a seminar and a slight at dinner. Answer first, then improve it. You can still be accurate. Accuracy after a human sentence is still Lattice. It's Lattice that got fed. If after that experiment you still wanted the drawing closed before anyone ate, you may be Blueprint. Read both.
Billing is a kind of close, which is why money often arrives late. Put invoices on the same timer as dinner. A career that can't survive a billing date is a hobby with extra shame, even if the hobby is serious. You're allowed to be paid for distinctions. Charge, then go back to the question with a fed body. The model will still be there. It always thinks it won't.
Questions
- What do the INTP letters mean?
- Introverted, Intuitive, Thinking, Perceiving. Typewell's name is Lattice: a private builder of distinctions who keeps the model open longer than the meal stays hot. Not a diagnosis, and not the official MBTI®.
- Why do INTPs live in their heads?
- The inner lab is where the work happens. It becomes a problem when the kitchen never gets staffed. A timer, a repeated meal, and one ship date are constraints, not betrayals.
- How do I tell INTP from INTJ?
- INTJ closes the drawing (Judging). INTP keeps branches (Perceiving). If dinner lost to the question, look at Lattice. If dinner was already in the plan, look at Blueprint.
- What work fits an INTP?
- A real problem, time to orbit it, and a pipeline to an artifact: research, software, analysis, technical writing, game systems, specialist tools. Avoid jobs that are mostly performed enthusiasm.
- Is an INTP introverted, or just anxious?
- They can be either, or both. Introversion is a battery. Anxiety is a fear of evaluation. A short quiz can't separate them. If rooms hurt afterward, look at the room and at care, not only at the letters.
For thinking about yourself. Not a diagnosis. Not the official MBTI test.
